Riley Mumphrey '26 Explores CSI at National Youth Leadership Forum
We are so proud of Riley Mumphrey, a current senior at Archbishop Chapelle, who took her passion for CSI and law to the next level this summer by attending the National Youth Leadership Forum: CSI & Law. This incredible 8-day program at the University of Maryland brought together students from around the world to dive into the exciting world of crime scene investigation and the legal system.
Here’s what Riley had to share about her experience:
"The National Youth Leadership Forum: CSI & Law was an 8-day experience at the University of Maryland where students participated in classes, listened to speakers, and engaged in hands-on simulations. These students from across the globe were given the opportunity to take evidence from the crime scene directly to the courtroom."
Riley’s Highlights from the Program
- Hearing from detectives, FBI agents, and members of the Innocence Project.
- Learning the different processes for gathering evidence from various crime scenes.
- Collaborating with students on the law track to present evidence in a trial and determine a verdict.
- Exploring the University of Maryland, George Mason University, and the sights of Washington, D.C.
- Participating in hands-on evidence analysis, including fingerprinting, handwriting analysis, hair/fiber identification, and blood splatter pattern examination.
Pushing Boundaries and Growing Confidence
Riley reflected on how this experience impacted her both personally and professionally:
"I am so glad that I was able to have this opportunity. By attending this experience by myself, it pushed me out of my comfort zone, encouraged me to meet so many new people, confirmed my interest in CSI, and allowed me to enjoy Washington, D.C. once again. The program was extremely organized and gave me the ultimate experience of a lifetime."
A Bright Future in CSI
Riley’s time at the program has only solidified her passion for pursuing a career in crime scene investigation. We are so inspired by her courage to step out of her comfort zone, her dedication to learning, and her commitment to exploring her future career.
Congratulations, Riley, on this amazing achievement! Your Chapelle family is cheering you on as you continue to follow your dreams.
