EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

The world is

our classroom

Experiential learning is an educational approach that focuses on learning through direct experience.  At Chapelle, we believe in providing opportunities for our students to engage in meaningful experiences beyond the confines of their classroom, their community, or even their continent. These opportunities both enrich our curriculum and expose our students to diverse perspectives, cultures, and environments, with the ultimate goal of fostering a broader understanding of the world around us and our place in it.

Recent Travels

AP European History: Florence & Rome

The AP European History Study Abroad Program is designed to transcend traditional classroom boundaries, this initiative takes students on an immersive journey across two unique European cities every other summer. By venturing into historical landscapes, architectural marvels, and cultural epicenters, students encounter tangible connections to the narratives they've studied. The program bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and lived reality, allowing students to witness the vestiges of the past and gain insights that mere textbooks cannot provide. Incorporating travel into the curriculum enhances students' grasp of context, causality, and consequence, transforming them into active participants in history. Witnessing the art, architecture, and traditions of Europe firsthand, participants forge personal connections to the past, igniting lifelong curiosity.

Every iteration of the program unveils a unique adventure, tailored to the interests of each cohort. New destinations are curated based on the specific students' preferences, ensuring that every experience remains fresh and captivating. The AP European History Study Abroad Program epitomizes the synergy between classroom education and experiential exploration, shaping astute global citizens with a profound appreciation for history's intricate tapestry.

Foreign Language: Rome, Paris, & Madrid

The Foreign Language Trip is designed for students to engage with the languages which they learn in the classrooms out in the world. Every other year, Chapelle partners with EF tours, Education First Tours, to bring students on an immersive cultural experience in various countries in Europe. The purpose centers around Chapelle’s Mission to foster a student’s spiritual, academic and social growth. Students visit architectural marvels and churches of the world’s most famous cities. They connect with native speakers of the languages which they are learning in the classroom and even have country specific culinary experiences. Students also have the opportunity to earn college credit through EF tour’s college program. Students also partake in EF’s mission, “opening the world through education” providing them with a life-changing opportunity to learn about the world and the wonderful people within it first hand.

Close Up: Washington DC

Close Up is a dynamic, hands-on civic education program for Juniors and Seniors. Using the city as a living classroom, Close Up’s high school Washington D.C. trip allows students to make personal connections with the people and institutions that embody our nation’s past and present. Students visit museums and memorials, attend mock congressional sessions, and participate in lively debates that allow them to apply the lessons they have learned in their social studies classrooms to the real world. This trip also provides an opportunity for students to form new friendships with other young people from across the country while having fun and learning together in our nation’s capital.

Belize Mission Trip

Every year, 20 students from Archbishop Chapelle and Archbishop Rummel attend Belize Mission, an 8 day mission trip taken to Belize to serve the local village of San Marcos through physical projects, retreats, and prayer ministry with the homebound. The purpose of this mission trip is three-fold: first, that students will reorient themselves from a self-focus to being other-focused, which will result in a new desire to serve others in their daily lives and in specific ways in our local archdiocese; second, to establish a relationship with the local mission Church and allow the students to experience the universality of the Church; third, that the fruit of the mission in each student’s heart would affect the entire culture of the school.

March for Life: Washington DC

The March for Life Trip is an archdiocesan pilgrimage taken to Washington, D.C. every year, in which students attend the national March for Life to raise their voices against the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, and to give witness to respect for all human life. Made up of hundreds of teenagers from the local diocese, students join hundreds of thousands of mostly young people to peacefully march as witnesses to the sanctity and the dignity of human life. This pilgrimage provides a unique opportunity to hear from national pro-life speakers, gather with young people from across the country in the nation’s capital, and participate in ministry nights each evening for students to have an authentic encounter with Jesus Christ through prayer and the Sacraments. The trip is designed to strengthen students’ understanding of pro-life catechesis, help them delve deeper into their relationship with Jesus, and encourage participation in His Church.
