  • French

    French I 

    9th-12th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course is designed to introduce and provide practice opportunities for students on the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the French language. Students are also introduced to French culture.

    French II

    10th-12th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course is a continuation of French I. It further develops the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students also further their study of French culture. Successful completion of French I is required prior to enrolling in this course. 

    French III - Honors 

    11th-12th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • The goal of this course is to continue and develop proficiency in the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing French. Students review work covered in French II and will acquire more advanced grammatical structures and an enriched vocabulary to help them gain confidence in their speaking abilities.  Frequent oral exercises and testing are included in this course, and students are expected to speak only French in the class.  Cultural information about France and the francophone world is also an essential component of this course. 
  • Latin

    Latin I Honors

    8th-9th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course familiarizes the student with the rudiments of Latin grammar, vocabulary, and syntax. Students will read adapted texts in Latin and will also be introduced to Roman history, culture, and art.

    Latin II Honors

    9th-10th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course focuses on the advanced study of Latin grammar, vocabulary, and syntax as well as readings from Caesar and selected authors. Study of Roman history, culture, and art are continued in greater detail. Successful completion of Latin I Honors is required prior to enrolling in this course.

    Latin III Honors

    10th-11th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course is a review of Latin grammar, vocabulary, and syntax. Focus is placed on readings from various authors and preparation for the AP Latin course. Successful completion of Latin I Honors and Latin II Honors is required prior to enrolling in this course.

    AP Latin

    11th-12th Grade 

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course aims to prepare students for the AP Latin exam through an in-depth review of Latin grammar, vocabulary, and syntax and extensive study of the historical context, and literary techniques. It focuses on the in-depth study of selections from two of the greatest works in Latin literature: Vergil’s Aeneid and Caesar’s Gallic War. The course requires students to prepare and translate the readings and place these texts in a meaningful context, which helps develop critical, historical, and literary sensitivities. Throughout the course, students consider themes in the context of ancient literature and bring these works to life through classroom discussions, debates, and presentations. Additional English readings from both of these works help place the Latin readings in a significant context. Successful completion of Latin I Honors, Latin II Honors, and Latin III Honors is required prior to enrolling in this course.
  • Spanish

    Spanish I 

    9th-12th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course provides the student with the foundation of the Spanish language and provides practice for students on the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish. Students are also introduced to Spanish and Latin American culture. There is no prerequisite for this elective.

    Spanish II 

    10th-12th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course offers a brief review of level one and helps the student further develop knowledge of the more complex structures of the language. Students are introduced to the history, geography, and culture of Spanish-speaking countries. Readings, writing assignments, and listening comprehension exercises help students to integrate the basic skills. Successful completion of Spanish I is required prior to enrolling in this course.

    Spanish II Honors

    10th-12th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course offers a more in depth development into the knowledge of the complex structures of the language. Students are instructed on the  history, geography, and culture of Spanish-speaking countries. A higher level of rigor will be introduced with readings, writing assignments, and listening comprehension exercises to help students to integrate the skills. Successful completion of Spanish I with a grade of an A and teacher reccomendation is required prior to enrolling in this course.

    Spanish III Honors

    11th-12th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This yearlong course offers further development of the Spanish language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing with a strong emphasis on the grammatical structure of the language. Students will also be exposed to Spanish literature and art and will gain further insights into the culture, life, and customs of the people in the Spanish-speaking world. Students will be encouraged to express themselves orally in Spanish at every opportunity. Successful completion of Spanish I and Spanish II is required prior to enrolling in this course.

    Dual Enrollment Spanish IV 

    11th-12th Grade

    Credit: 1.0

    • This course is a full year course broken down by semester.  Each semester must be taken.  Focus is on developing all four language skills: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. The course includes the presentation and discussion of cultural materials from magazines, films, music, and from electronic ancillaries.
