Last Friday, at lunch, Chips for Cultural Awareness were selling aguas frescas! Aguas frescas is a drink native to Mexico. In English, it translates to “fresh water”; however, this can be misleading as aguas frescas are made of much more than just water. The drink is a combination of whatever you’d like, but there must be some water and sugar added. This special drink is over hundreds of years old and is an important part of Mexican culture. A common way to make it is with fruit juice, lime juice, water, and sweetener. It is a very versatile drink that you can make at home!
The reason why aguas frescas was such a spotlight last Friday is because it is National Spanish Heritage Month. The flavors that were available included lemon, melon, and orange. According to most, lemon was the most loved flavor, due to its sweetness and overall taste.. In fact, lemon was actually sold out! Chips for Cultural Awareness is dedicated to sharing beautiful cultures from all over the world, and we encourage everyone to make their own celebration with them, and most importantly, to make their own aguas frescas!
