FROM THE DESK OF THE

HEAD OF SCHOOL

Hello parents! As we are coming to the end of the first quarter of school, I wanted to share with you the importance of your daughter being in school every day. I encourage you to review the handbook for important details of our absentee policy.

Attending school every day in high school is essential for several reasons:

1. Academic Success

  • Consistent Learning: Daily attendance ensures that students don't miss important lessons, assignments, and exams. Missing even a few days can result in gaps in understanding, making it harder to catch up later.
  • Better Grades: Research consistently shows that students with higher attendance perform better academically. Regular attendance is linked to improved test scores, project completion, and overall academic performance.
  • Participation: Many activities, such as group projects or class discussions, require consistent presence to fully engage and learn effectively.

2. Building Strong Habits

  • Discipline and Responsibility: Attending school every day fosters a sense of responsibility and discipline. These habits carry over into college or the workforce, where regular attendance and punctuality are critical.
  • Time Management: Consistently attending school encourages students to develop time management skills, balancing classes, homework, extracurricular activities, and personal time.

3. Social Development

  • Peer Interaction: High school is not only about academics but also social learning. Attending regularly allows students to build and maintain friendships, work in teams, and develop interpersonal skills, which are crucial for personal development.
  • Emotional Support: Schools provide access to counselors, mentors, and other support systems that can help students navigate challenges both in and out of the classroom.

4. Preparation for the Future

  • College Readiness: Many colleges and universities consider attendance and consistency in performance when making admissions decisions. Regular school attendance can also help students prepare for the attendance expectations in higher education.
  • Workforce Readiness: Employers value individuals who can show up reliably. Developing a habit of regular attendance in school helps prepare students for the professional world, where consistency is key to success.

5. Avoiding Negative Consequences

  • Falling Behind: Absenteeism often leads to missing important information, making it harder to stay on track with assignments and assessments, which can lead to lower grades.

6. Access to Resources

  • Extracurriculars and Support: Regular attendance ensures students can participate in extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, and academic support programs that are crucial for college applications and personal growth.
  • Health and Safety: Schools provide structure and routine.

In short, attending school every day is fundamental for academic achievement, social development, and the acquisition of life skills.

It is our pleasure to educate your daughters and we thank you for entrusting her education with Archbishop Chapelle High School.

Lakeside Shopping Center

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Chapelle's Pumpkin Promo Video

The Archbishop Chapelle National Art Honor Society has created another series of pumpkins for the Lakeside Shopping Center pumpkin decorating contest. The theme selected this year honors the Halloween movie master himself, Tim Burton!  Our title pumpkin features Tim Burton selling tickets at a movie theater adorned with hand-painted posters from Sleepy Hollow, Batman Returns, the Wednesday Adams show, The Nightmare before Christmas, Frankenweenie and Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We then paid tribute to the latest Beetlejuice movie with a journey back to the graveyard scene, complete with animated sign and watched over by the sandworm of Saturn. Our next pumpkin depicts the Mad Hatter from his adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. We then have a dual sided pumpkin showing two scenes from the Corpse Bride featuring hand sewn wedding gown and hand stitched hair. Our final pumpkin is another collaboration with the Chapelle robotics team and created in our new STEM lab on our Glowforge which depicts Edward Scissorhands sculpting beautiful hedges with moving animatronic hands.

Voting for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place this year will be conducted by a panel of judges. Voting for the People Choice Award is NOT online this year but only in person at the Lakeside shopping center on 10/13 and 10/19 at center court. Come out and help us win this competition!

Hallow

Last year, we partnered with Hallow, an amazing online resource for prayer that the students can use in the classroom and in their own personal lives! Having Hallow was a great opportunity that I know many of our students took advantage of. Between the faculty, staff, and students, the Archbishop Chapelle community prayed over 11,000 prayers on Hallow last year!

I am happy to say that we are partnering with Hallow again this year! Every single student will have full access to a Hallow account through their achschipmunks email. They should have, or soon will be receiving an email from Hallow with more information on how to log into their accounts. The students can access Hallow through the web browser on their chromebooks, or they can also download the app on their smartphones if they have one. We will be using Hallow in the Theology classes this year, so it is important that every student knows how to access their accounts.

Parents, Hallow also generously offers a free trial for you! Be on the lookout for more information in the future!

If you have any questions about Hallow, please contact Mr. Gavin Matherne.

Know that we are praying for you!

Bullying/Harassment Policy

Bullying is a distinctive pattern of repeatedly and deliberately harming and humiliating others and is characterized by a power imbalance between the two parties. Bullying includes, but is not limited to physical or verbal aggression, relational aggression, or emotional aggression (teasing, threatening, and intimidating others). Relational aggression (RA), is a form of indirect bullying that uses social relationships to manipulate or harm others, such as isolating a student from her group of friends (social exclusion), threatening to stop talking to a friend (the ''silent treatment''), or spreading gossip and rumors. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, slurs, jokes, comments, or other offensive conduct relating to race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship, disability, or any other legally protected characteristic. Bullying, relational aggression (including cyber-bullying), and harassment will not be tolerated. Please use the forms below to report bullying.

2026 Chapelle Makes A Difference Day 🌟 25 Agencies. One Mission. Endless Impact. 💚 Chapelle’s annual Makes A Difference Day once again brought our entire student body into the heart of the community for a day rooted in service, compassion, and purpose. This year, our Chipmunks partnered with 25 incredible organizations across Louisiana, dedicating their time and energy to meeting real needs and forming meaningful connections. From environmental stewardship and hands‑on service projects to spending time with residents, supporting teachers, organizing donations, and assisting local ministries, our students truly served as the hands and feet of Christ throughout the day. Whether offering a helping hand or simply sharing a smile and conversation, the impact was felt far beyond a single afternoon. This powerful tradition reflects the heart of a Chapelle education—forming young women who lead with faith, act with compassion, and serve with joy. We are incredibly proud of the way our students continue to step beyond our campus walls to make a difference where it matters most. Agencies We Served This Year: GreenLight The Woodlands Conservancy Coastal Roots Loop NOLA Covenant Nursing Home St. Margaret's at Mercy Retirement Home The Blake at Colonial Club Laurel Senior Living Chateau De Notre Dame St. Edwards School St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Good Shepherd Nativity School St. Benilde School Chateau Estates School Chartwell Center St. Michael Special School St. Therese Academy Magnolia Community Services Hotel Hope Ozanam Inn Giving Hope NOLA New Orleans Mission Hagar's House Junior League of New Orleans Diaper Bank Lantern Light Ministries We are grateful to these organizations for welcoming our students and allowing us to serve alongside them. Makes A Difference Day reminds us that when Chipmunks come together with one mission, the impact is truly endless. 💚

Physics in Action: Mrs. Blackburn’s Egg Drop Challenge 🥚 Learning came crashing down in the best way possible in Mrs. Blackburn’s physics classes as students took on a classic (and messy!) egg drop challenge designed to bring physics concepts to life. Students put momentum, impulse, and kinetic energy to the test by engineering devices meant to protect a raw egg dropped from Chapelle’s breezeway, nearly 15 feet above the ground. With no limits on materials or design, creativity ran wild and ingenuity was on full display. The results were as entertaining as they were educational. We saw eggs cushioned by loaves of bread, protected by foam enclosures, sealed inside peanut butter jars, and even suspended in a bucket of slime. Each design reflected thoughtful problem‑solving and an understanding of how force and energy interact during impact. While not every egg survived the fall, every drop was a lesson. Students analyzed what worked, what didn’t, and how their designs could improve, gaining hands‑on experience that textbooks simply can’t replicate. Some builds were especially impressive, proving that a little imagination goes a long way in science. Mrs. Blackburn’s egg drop challenge was a perfect example of how Chapelle students learn by doing, combining curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in a fun and unforgettable way.

Softball Retreat Builds Faith, Teamwork, and Season‑Ready Spirit This past weekend, Chapelle’s softball team kicked off the season with a meaningful and energizing team retreat—and they truly knocked it out of the park. The day was filled with opportunities for faith, reflection, and bonding. The retreat began with a Blessing of the Field led by Deacon Capaci, setting the tone for a season rooted in gratitude, faith, and purpose. The team then took the field for a scrimmage, followed by a series of team challenges designed to strengthen communication and trust. One of the highlights of the day was this year’s featured challenge, “Carry the Canoe: The Way.” The team worked together through 14 stations, completing both physical challenges and problem‑solving tasks at each stop. With every station, a 5‑pound weight was added to the canoe they carried—symbolizing the importance of perseverance, unity, and shared responsibility as challenges grow. In addition to the physical and mental challenges, the team spent time in reflection in the chapel, participated in team‑bonding games, and concluded the retreat by attending Mass at St. Philip Neri (SPN). The goal of the retreat was simple but powerful: to grow in Christ and grow together as a team. This weekend served as a beautiful foundation for the season ahead, strengthening not only athletic readiness but also faith and friendship. We are excited to see how this team carries these lessons onto the field throughout the season.

Back to School Prayer

Dear Lord,

As our students begin a new school year, I pray that you will keep them in your care. Send your Spirit to open their minds to all that is true and beautiful and good.  Help them to see the gifts and talents you have given them and to use them well.  Help them to grow in knowledge and wisdom.  Help them to be kind to others and lead others to be kind to them.
Open their young hearts to your presence and enfold them in your peace and protection.

Amen.
