Chipmunks spent time in Rouen, France on the AP Euro Trip! They had the chance to visit some of the incredible churches in Rouen, specifically the St. Joan of Arc Church which is located at the spot she was martyred in May of 1431. Upcoming Senior, Dalila, shared how special it was to visit this landmark on St. Joan of Arc's feast day:
"The most significant part of visiting Rouen was when we arrived at the very spot where St. Joan of Arc was martyred and the church that was built in her honor. It had been raining all day, but suddenly, when we arrived at the St. Joan of Arc Church, the sun was beaming on us like it hadn't all week. The fact that it was her feast day, commemorating the very day she was burned at the stake, did not feel like a coincidence.
The connection to a patron saint at Archbishop Chapelle High School seemed to have struck all of us, and I feel as though it gave us a deeper connection to each other through our spiritual lives. Every attendee of the trip was so attentive and faithfully solemn when mourning the anniversary of her death. Ms. Lacour enlightened us on the site that Joan asked to have the crucifix held in front of her eyes as she passed and repeated Jesus' name over and over again. This reminds me of my need for Jesus Christ in times of hardship because his love is ever present. I will now remember, more than ever before, St. Joan of Arc and her fortitude; I will attempt to instill the same sense of fortitude in my everyday life after feeling her in the realest way imaginable."
