Stay in the Know

FROM THE DESK OF THE

HEAD OF SCHOOL

Students and Parents,

For the safety of our Chapelle students, faculty and staff, we have upgraded the campus gate system. Beginning on Tuesday, January 21, the perimeter of Chapelle’s campus will be secured daily from 8:30am – 2:45pm. Access to campus will be through the Montana Avenue gate (near the flagpole) during the school day. You must pull up to the Montana Avenue touchpad and press the silver button to speak with front office. Once you have identified yourself, the gate will be opened for you to enter campus. You must come directly to the front office after parking. When exiting campus, pull directly up to the same gate. As you approach the gate, it will automatically open, and it will automatically close after you exit. Thank you for your patience as we continue to focus on the safety of our campus.

Thank you for entrusting your daughters in our care. Have a great weekend.

Hallow

Last year, we partnered with Hallow, an amazing online resource for prayer that the students can use in the classroom and in their own personal lives! Having Hallow was a great opportunity that I know many of our students took advantage of. Between the faculty, staff, and students, the Archbishop Chapelle community prayed over 11,000 prayers on Hallow last year!

I am happy to say that we are partnering with Hallow again this year! Every single student will have full access to a Hallow account through their achschipmunks email. They should have, or soon will be receiving an email from Hallow with more information on how to log into their accounts. The students can access Hallow through the web browser on their chromebooks, or they can also download the app on their smartphones if they have one. We will be using Hallow in the Theology classes this year, so it is important that every student knows how to access their accounts.

Parents, Hallow also generously offers a free trial for you! Be on the lookout for more information in the future!

If you have any questions about Hallow, please contact Mr. Gavin Matherne.

Know that we are praying for you!

Bullying/Harassment Policy

Bullying is a distinctive pattern of repeatedly and deliberately harming and humiliating others and is characterized by a power imbalance between the two parties. Bullying includes, but is not limited to physical or verbal aggression, relational aggression, or emotional aggression (teasing, threatening, and intimidating others). Relational aggression (RA), is a form of indirect bullying that uses social relationships to manipulate or harm others, such as isolating a student from her group of friends (social exclusion), threatening to stop talking to a friend (the ''silent treatment''), or spreading gossip and rumors. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, slurs, jokes, comments, or other offensive conduct relating to race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship, disability, or any other legally protected characteristic. Bullying, relational aggression (including cyber-bullying), and harassment will not be tolerated. Please use the forms below to report bullying.

Latin II Brings Mythology to Life with Creative Hotel Projects 🏛️🕸️ Ms. Urso’s Latin II class recently explored mythology and design in a creative project to prepare for the culture sections of the National Latin Exam. Students designed a hotel inspired by a "spooky" mythological creature or god/goddess, blending ancient Roman culture with modern concepts. Each student created a portfolio, either digital or physical, showcasing the hotel exterior, lobby layout, restaurants, and room decor, all inspired by their chosen mythological figure. This hands-on project allowed students to deepen their understanding of mythology while honing design, storytelling, and presentation skills. One standout project was the Elysian Fields Resort , designed by 9th-grader Lyla Steimle , inspired by Hades/Pluto. Her vision included a sleek, underworld-themed exterior, a glowing, elegant lobby, and room interiors styled after the Elysian Fields. Lyla’s attention to detail brought her mythological concept to life! This project is a testament to how Chapelle’s language classes encourage creativity and critical thinking while preparing students for academic success. Congratulations to Ms. Urso’s Latin II class for their hard work and innovative designs!

Chips United for a Cause: Pink Game Victory 🩷🎀 Last night, The Burrow was packed with a standing-room-only crowd as Chapelle took on Haynes in an intense match that went down to the final set. Decked out in pink, our students rallied behind the Volley Chips to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month—and celebrated a hard-fought victory! A “C” of Pink for a Purpose Throughout October, our Chipmunks transformed Chapelle into a sea of pink to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. From Pink Fest to the Pink Game, students demonstrated their passion, spirit, and unwavering support for this important cause, cheering on our volleyball team in style while making a meaningful difference. Thank You for Making an Impact A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our October Student Council activities and competitions. Your generosity is making a real difference, with proceeds benefiting the Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center.

A Program on the Rise Under the leadership of legendary head coach Jodee Pulizzano, now in her second year at Chapelle, the volleyball program is experiencing a resurgence. Pulizzano, who boasts an incredible 1,025 career wins over 35 years, has been a part of six state championships and nine finals appearances during her illustrious career. “This one ranks very high,” Pulizzano said of the victory. “You preach to your team that they are good. Until they actually achieve that goal, then they start believing. The energy was great. You have to learn how to win the big game. That’s a culture thing. I think we’re turning the corner. It’s a phenomenal group of kids.” A Team Effort The Chipmunks’ performance on Thursday was nothing short of extraordinary—a true demonstration of teamwork and grit. 🏐 Victoria McCann led the way with an impressive 26 kills, showing her dominance at the net. 🏐 Blythe Bonnaffons was everywhere on the court, tallying 41 assists and an incredible 22 digs. 🏐 Ava Landry anchored the defense with 35 digs, proving her reliability in high-pressure moments. 🏐 Audrey Dubuc added 13 kills, while Chloe Arnold contributed with 8 blocks to shut down the opposition's attack. 🏐 Lilly Carmadelle served up 3 aces, adding to the Chipmunks’ momentum. It showed that the Chipmunks are ready to compete at the highest level in one of the toughest volleyball districts in Louisiana. “Why not us?” Pulizzano said. “This was a complete team effort. It’s about what players come out to play. It was phenomenal. It was great. We have players willing to give it up for their teammates.” Looking Ahead With the win, Chapelle improves to 15-7 overall and remains undefeated in district play at 3-0. Hands-On Learning in Veterinary Science: Exploring Rhino Conservation At Archbishop Chapelle High School, we believe in bringing education to life through hands-on learning, and our Veterinary Science elective is no exception. Recently, students in Judy Merrill’s Veterinary Science class took part in an innovative lab that combined science, conservation, and real-world applications. A Look Into Rhino Conservation The lab centered on the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s groundbreaking contributions to rhino conservation efforts, specifically through reproductive endocrinology research. Students were introduced to the critical role that hormone studies play in preserving endangered species like the rhinoceros. As part of the lab, students worked with mock progesterone hormone samples from a female rhino. By analyzing this data, they were able to: - Diagnose the reproductive state of the rhino. - Understand how this information is used to help manage breeding programs. - Learn how reproductive science can contribute to saving a species from extinction. Real-World Veterinary Science Applications This lab provided students with a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of wildlife conservation and veterinary science. Through studying reproductive cycles and hormone research, students gained real-world insight into how science and technology help protect endangered animals. Judy Merrill explained the importance of this hands-on experience: “This cutting-edge curriculum allows students to see how veterinary science plays a crucial role in species preservation. It’s about more than just learning facts—it’s about understanding how their future careers can make a difference in the world.” Inspiring the Next Generation of Conservationists This lab is just one example of how Chapelle’s Veterinary Science elective fosters curiosity and passion for science. By engaging in meaningful, real-world learning experiences, students are inspired to think critically about their future and the impact they can have on the environment. Congratulations to our Veterinary Science students for their hard work and to Mrs. Merrill for creating such an engaging and impactful curriculum!
