Chapelle Bowling Shines at Capitol City Strike Out
Although Archbishop Chapelle’s bowling season officially kicks off in January, several members of the Chapelle Bowling Team wasted no time making their mark at the first individual tournament of the year. Over Labor Day Weekend, five of our talented Chipmunks traveled to Baton Rouge to compete in the Capitol City Strike Out, an annual event that draws some of the state’s finest young bowlers and marks the start of the youth bowling calendar.
A Strong Showing in Baton Rouge
Among the 80 competitors, Chapelle proudly fielded five dedicated bowlers who competed in both the U15 and U18 Girls Divisions, representing our school with skill, determination, and Chapelle pride.
U15 Girls/Boys Division
- Brynn Caire (8th Grade) and Kristin Munch (Sophomore) competed in the U15 Division, delivering commendable performances in the intense 8-game qualifier. While they did not advance to the Sunday playoffs, both demonstrated impressive potential and gained valuable experience for the season ahead.
U18 Girls Division
In the highly competitive U18 Girls Division, Taylor Bourdonnay (Junior), Addison Belle (Junior), and Alexandra Young (Senior) brought grit and determination to the lanes:
- Taylor finished Saturday’s 8-game qualifier in 15th place, just shy of the playoff cut.
- Addison and Alexandra shined, finishing in 5th and 6th place, respectively, securing their spots in the Sunday playoffs. Addison led all Chapelle bowlers with an impressive 190 average per game during the qualifiers.
Sunday Playoff Highlights: A Chipmunk Showdown
The Sunday playoff followed a double-elimination bracket format, and both Addison and Alexandra delivered performances that captured the competitive spirit of Chapelle Bowling:
- After a tough start, both were sent to the loser’s bracket in the first round.
- In their second games, Addison eliminated the #2 seed, while Alexandra ousted the #1 seed—a testament to their resilience and focus.
This set up an all-Chipmunk match for 4th place, where Addison won the first game with a stunning score of 212. Alexandra, however, bounced back to win the second game and the total pin count, advancing her to the 3rd place match.
Alexandra’s Run to the Finals
Facing Ava Doucet from St. Joseph’s in Baton Rouge, Alexandra delivered clutch performances, winning with scores of 213 and 237 to advance to the championship match. In the finals, she faced Caroline Engeron from Albany. Despite Alexandra’s impressive scores of 188 and 207, Caroline’s exceptional average of 230 per game earned her the title.
Alexandra proudly finished in 2nd place, earning a $245 scholarship and maintaining a remarkable 201 average over ten games on Sunday.
Celebrating Our Chipmunks
All five bowlers represented Chapelle with excellence, sportsmanship, and determination throughout the weekend. Notably, Chapelle was the only school with more than one qualifier in the U18 Girls Division—a true testament to the strength of our bowling program.
We are incredibly proud of each of these young women for their hard work and dedication. Their performances in Baton Rouge are just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting bowling season for Archbishop Chapelle!
💚
Congratulations to Brynn, Kristin, Taylor, Addison, and Alexandra! You’ve made your Chapelle family proud! 💚
