Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 and 2024 Masters winner, has a lot to live up to this week. During the week of April 7th-13th, Scottie Scheffler is playing in the PGA Masters golf tournament. His first tee-off time is 10:15 (ET) on Thursday, April 10, and he will continue in the rounds, if he makes the 36-hole cut, until Sunday (Busbee). Scheffler joined professional golf in 2018, has since had 13 career PGA tour wins in the past 4 years, and has even received the gold medal in the 2024 Summer Olympics men's individual golf tournament. The golfing world is watching Scheffler closely this week to see if he can add a third Masters tournament win to his growing legacy.
Before we dive into how Scottie performs in this week's tournament, it is essential to discuss some facts about his background and what has led him to where he is today. Scottie Scheffler, more formally known as Scott Alexander Scheffler, is a 28-year-old Professional American golfer. Scheffler was first introduced to golf at the age of three and continued to play golf through his childhood and teenage years. In 2018, Scottie Scheffler turned pro the same year he graduated from the University of Texas, where he played collegiate golf and earned a degree in finance (Gomes). After this, he went on to play in several PGA tournaments. And through these games, he allows his faith to carry him. Scottie is a devout Christian who allows God to guide him through every golf game he plays. Scheffler states, "I'm a faithful guy. I believe in a creator. I believe in Jesus. Ultimately, I think that's what defines me most." This Displays how God plays a huge role in his identity.
The Masters Tournament started on April 7, but the official first round began on April 10. Scottie teed off at 10:15 A.M. (ET) on the first hole of the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. He started strong with par on the first hole and continued to dominate the course, with par on each hole other than earning birdies on holes 2, 4, 8, and 16. Scottie's impressive game with zero bogeys allowed him to get a score of 68 on the par of 72 course. Scottie Scheffler had a great start to the tournament and was tied in second place with his opponent, Corey Conners. This outcome of the first round gave Scottie a solid start to the tournament.
Next, on round two, Scheffler teed off at 1:23 P.M. (ET) on Friday, April 11, 2025, and did well on the front nine holes, attaining three birdies, one bogey, and par on the other five holes. Unfortunately, Scottie struggled with the last nine holes and shot four bogeys. However, he also earned three birdies and scored par on holes thirteen and fifteen. Luckily, although Scheffler struggled more in round two than his first initial round, he finished with a score of 71, or one under par. By the end of Friday, Scottie was tied for fifth place with Shane Lowry and Tyrell Hatton. Thankfully, because he made it in the top fifty, Scheffler made the cut-line, allowing him to continue in the last two rounds on Saturday and Sunday.
Furthermore, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, Scottie Scheffler played a satisfactory game during the third round. He made one birdie and one bogey on the front nine, with pars on the other holes. Similarly, his score on the back nine was a score of one birdie, one bogey, and the rest pars. As a result, Scottie got a total score of 72, or right on par. Although this score was not outstanding, it kept him in the top ten of the leaderboard. By the end of the day, Scheffler found himself in a four-way tie for sixth place and was ready to head into the final round on Sunday.
Lastly, the fourth round of the Masters tournament took place on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
With high hopes for a win at the tournament, Scheffler had to play exceptionally well in order to catch up with the leaders. Scottie made three birdies and one bogey and scored par on the rest of the holes on the first nine of the holes. Along with this, on the back nine holes, he scored two birdies and one bogey and recorded par on the rest of the back nine holes. He finished this round with a score of 69, or three under par. As a result, Scheffler concluded the tournament in fourth place. Although Scottie did not get his first-place win, throughout the tournament, he displayed his dedication and drive toward his game.
Before concluding, here are some quotes that either Scottie Scheffler or others have said about him in the Masters this week. Firstly, Scottie comments on his Saturday performance, where he earned a score of 72, saying, "'I try to shoot the lowest score that I can shoot on a given day, and today apparently that was only even par'" (Pietruszkiewicz). In addition, Scheffler talks about his game on Friday, April 11, and discusses the course and the conditions he faced, stating, "That's what's great about this golf course is it's quite challenging and you get winds like that, you've really got to manage your expectations, manage yourself around the course." Lastly, Brent Blackburn, a hardcore golf and Masters fan, states this about Scottie's performance this week: "His iron play was noted as very inconsistent, and he kind of couldn't find his swing. Also, this was the first Masters that he had a daughter and family come with him, so his social distractions could have affected his performance. I think that if he had one more day, he could have really made it to the top of the game." In all, Scottie faced certain challenges throughout the tournament this week. Still, he was able to finish off in the top five and give the game his all.
Scottie Scheffler may not have received a first-place win this year, but he was still able to enjoy the game with family and fans throughout the week. Even when he faced challenges, he persevered and pushed himself to do his best to improve his performance. Hopefully, next year, his fans will be able to see the same dedication that Scheffler delivered this year in next year's Masters Tournament. In conclusion, Scottie gave it his all in this week's 2025 Masters tournament and ended with excellent results
