Study Tips:
With the holidays coming to an end, the last thing we want to do is lose momentum with our grades, so here are some helpful tips to help with studying during exams!
First, you want to make sure to set the mood, whether that means studying at a desk, in your bed, sitting on your couch, or at your dining room table. Make sure you are comfortable, but not too comfortable, with no distractions around you. Personally, I find it most helpful to listen to music, you can find a studying playlist on just about any music platform, or make your own playlist.
Now that your surroundings are perfect, it's time to focus on studying. There are many forms of studying that I have found helpful over the years. Depending on what kind of subject you are studying for will depend on how you like to study.
Most teachers like to hand out study guides the week before exams with practice problems or an outline of what to study/expect for the exam.
While these are very helpful, it never hurts to make your own study guide! Whether that means breaking down the study guide you were given, or if that means rewriting all the notes and highlighting important information that was given to you. Have fun with this, make it aesthetic, add cute fonts, make it fun colors etc. Share it with friends so that you can both study and add any notes.
Personally, I find this method the easiest as I find it easier for me to break down my notes in a way that looks more visually pleasing, but also in a way I can better understand!
2. Quizlet
We all know Quizlet and have used it at least once. When it comes to exam week, a Quizlet can become your best friend. Don’t rely on others when it comes to actually making the study guide as you will most likely be disappointed. Make your own sets whether it's vocab words or notes. Whatever it is, Quizlet has many options for studying and memorizing the material. There are flashcards, testing where they can grade you, and matching the definition to the word. Quizlet is always adding new ways for you to study so that you can be confident that you know the material! Also, look back at old Quizlets that others in class make and study from those sets. No matter which set you use to study from, Quizlet has a way to help you review the material!
3. Reworking Problems
With study guides, teachers like to put practice problems or examples on them just in case you want to rework it to make sure you remember how to do it. Along with this, it never hurts to go back to past homework or old worksheets to rework to make sure you know exactly what or how to do something. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions, your teachers would be more than willing to help you! Trust me, they want you to get an A as much as you do.
4. Test/Quizzes
The week before exams, ask your teachers for your old tests and quizzes. Not only can you see what you got wrong, but you can see how the teacher might format the exam! Ask questions like “Will this specific section be on the exam?” or “Should I highlight this in my notes?”. Your teachers will answer any questions you have, or take the time to fully explain an answer.
5. Break Down Study Days
And finally, before doing all of this, take time during your week to fully break down everything. Take the time to break down days so that you know what to study and when. Take a deep breath and take days to study each subject so that the night before you can review one and fully study the other one. Exams can be stressful, but if you go into it with a positive mindset and take time for yourself, you will be just fine!
GOOD LUCK!
