The Walk for the Hungry was held on Saturday, March 7.  Over 35 students participated and beautifully represented Chapelle in this very important act of justice.

 

Chapelle art students participated in the twenty -first annual "Art in Bloom" exhibit at the New Orleans Museum of Art.  The participants were:  Mallory Randolph - Architecture; Ashley Nicholson - Music; Madeleine Rappold - Fence; Katelyn Ory - Culinary Traditions; Mrs. Sarah Bachemin - City; Rachel Winters - Design and Tree; Alyssa Fenasci - Literature; Jamie Roussel - Dance; Sarah Baxter - Title Piece; Meghan Beitzel - Celebrations; and Alex Rodemann - Fine Arts. 

 

 

 

 

Congratulations to 8th graders Morgan Kuhn and Rachel Puipuro.  Their short stories were selected to be among the top forty submissions in the statewide Straight from the Heart Writing Contest.  These stories will also be published in an anthology of student fiction  published by the contest.

 

Chapelle Royalty

Stacey Meehan, Heather Hill, Jennifer Ladd were maids in the Krewe of Caesar.  Gabrielle Himbert reigned as this year's Empress of Caesar.  Ashleigh Fonte and Noel Lorio were maids in the Italian American parade. Taylor Heirsch is a maid in the Krewe of Zeus.  Katelyn Ory is a maid in the Krewe of Allonus. 

 

In celebration of Catholic Schools Week, the Archbishop Chapelle High School Chorale will perform at Lakeside Shopping Center on Friday, January 30 from 1 – 1:30 PM.  During Catholic Schools Week, January 26 – 31, artwork by ACHS students will be on display.  In addition, Mallory Randolph ’09 designed the winning banner for the Catholic Schools Week banner contest.  Her artwork, enlarged 10 times on an 8-by-15 foot banner will be on display.  Mallory’s banner includes symbols for unity, service and a clean environment.

 

Bethany Olivier performed at the Louisiana All-State Honor Chorus Concert on November 22.  She is pictured with Ms. Kathryn Claverie, ACHS Choral Director.

Archbishop Chapelle is a participant in the Louisiana Virtual School (LVS).  Through LVS our students have the opportunity to take online classes during the school day.  Pictured are members of the Web Design class.  Some of our LVS course offerings in the 2008-2009 school year were Web Design, Game Design I, Digital Graphics and Animation, Math Skills Review, Reading Comprehension, and Study Skills.

 

 

AP Scholars

Chloé Chetta, Celeste Faia, Kelsey Pabst, Jordan Terry, Natalie White, and Megan Zeringue, members of the Class of 2008, have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams.  The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.

 

Thank you to the nearly 200 students, parents and faculty who worked at Chapelle on Sunday, November 2nd in a joint day of service for the ACHS Parents' Club, Work Study families and various school clubs and organizations.

Election 2008

Archbishop Chapelle students gathered in the gym Tuesday to hear speeches given by student representatives of the two major party candidates for President of the United States.

With Gretchen Cade serving as mistress of ceremonies, Mary Tamporello spoke on behalf of Senator John McCain, the Republican Party nominee, and Lauryn Richard spoke on behalf of Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic Party nominee. 

After hearing the speeches, the students returned to I.S. to vote for their candidate.  Here are the results:

Sophomore,Whitney Sutton recently participated in a Powerade Pro Challenge event and was selected to receive a Powerade Fantasy Sports Weekend.  She had a once in a lifetime opportunity to play baseball, football, and basketball with pro athletes including Warren Moon, Jamal Anderson, Dominique Wilkins,  Derrick Brooks, Joey Galloway, Joba Chamberlain, and more.  She also met with Lou Holtz and Nascar driver Juan Pablo Montoya.  The event took place in Orlando at Disney's Wide
World of Sports Complex on October 5th -7th.  She also attended the private players' party at Universal Studio's Citywalk. 

 

Respect for Life Mass

On Saturday, September 27th the first round All-State Honor Band auditions were held at Brother Martin High School.  Five Chapelle students made the cut. The second audition was held on Saturday, October 11th at Pineville High located in Pineville, LA. There were two possible bands to make, the Symphonic Band and Concert Band. And, all five girls made it! The students that made Symphonic were: Kristie Stein, flute, Adrianne Cashio, flute, and Jessi Robelot, baritone. The students that made Concert were: Courtney Brehm, clarinet, and Jordan Robelot, tuba.

Sr. Helen Prejean visited campus this week.  She spoke with the juniors and seniors on social justice issues.

 

Seniors Bethany Olivier, Emily Boudreaux and Mary Tamporello have been named Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.

 

Congratulations to the following students who auditioned and were selected for the LMEA District Honor Chorus.  They will rehearse and perform a concert at Loyola University in February: Jordyn Berger, Hannah Bergeron, Alexis Harrington, Janaea Ivory, Kirsten Jorgensen, Cathy Juarez, Rachel Lattier, Taylor Leonard, Kelly Letort, Erin Mayeux, Mallory Migliore, Ashley Nicholson, Bethany Olivier, Victoria Quintanilla, and Lauryn Richard, Jessica Sprick

Archbishop Placide Louis Chapelle was born in Mende, France, on August 28, 1842.  Traditionally, the students have birthday cake during lunch to celebrate the occasion.  more pictures
