Poem
by Genevieve Schluter

Some humble men on a hillside slept
Alongside the small flock they kept
Were awakened by an angel’s horn
Song of plans fulfilled and a baby born.

A stirring in a feeding pan
A tiny heart, living Amen
A father’s pride, a mother’s prayer
All symbols of a Maker’s care.

These peaceful scenes are worn with time
And yet they still glow bright
So when passing a nativity
Be gladdened by the sight.

Recall that night, that prayer, that star
Forget the holiday’s stress
Remember instead that silent night
Begun by one sweet “Yes.”
