CLOSE UP
By Mallory Migilore
Every year Chapelle juniors and
seniors have the opportunity to take a
trip to Washington, D.C. and explore
America’s history. This year fourteen
Chipmunks took advantage of this
historical journey from January 17-22.
The group included seniors Morgan Baroni,
Michelle Centanni, Lauren Evola, Emily
Gambino, Courtney Howe, Jennifer Ladd,
Nicole Lavene, Molly Smith and Tiffany
Willis, and juniors Rachel Dubret, Kayla
Duvernay, Adrienne Gaiennie, Meghan
Mack, and Jessica Robelot. The girls
were accompanied by history teacher Mrs.
Jeannine Seoane and Assistant Principal
for Student Activities Lisa Boihem.
There was so much to do in so little
time on the trip. They visited several
memorials and museums, including the
Lincoln Memorial, the Holocaust Museum
and the Smithsonian Museums. According
to Mrs. Seoane, “On
Capital Hill, the students witnessed the
Supreme Court hearing a case, attended a
tour of the Capital, viewed the House of
Representatives in session from the
gallery and met with Louisiana's
senators David Vitter and Mary
Landrieu.” On
the last night of their stay, a banquet
was held followed by a dance. Senior
Molly Smith commented, “Close Up was a
great experience because it was a lot of
fun, but I also learned a lot. We
learned information about every place we
visited. We had workshops every night
that we were there, and we did many
activities at all of the sites.” The
girls cannot wait until next year when
they can enjoy their trip again.
