Food Friendzy: August Moon
Cathy Juarez (’10) and Molly Smith (’10)
Upon
entering the restaurant we were engulfed with the aroma of delicious Asian
cuisine. After driving in the hustle and bustle of the city, entering the
restaurant was extremely soothing. The atmosphere was very relaxing with calming
music playing in the background and beautiful cultural artwork on the walls. We
were immediately seated and our order was taken promptly. Our orders consisted
of pork wonton soup, sweet and sour chicken with shrimp fried rice, and boneless
chicken and vegetables with egg fried rice. When the food was brought to our
table, we were impressed by the neat presentation. The sweet and sour chicken
was crispy, yet tender and came with just the right amount of rice. The boneless
chicken was also scrumptious—with a mixture of stir-fried vegetables, such as
carrots, broccoli, and snap beans. After a such a filling meal, the bill was
under twenty dollars for everything.
The
restaurant is located on Prytania Street near the intersection of Amelia Street
and St. Charles Avenue (behind Superior Grill.) After inquiring about the
restaurant’s location, we learned that it has been at the same spot for
seventeen years. It is also the perfect place to go eat in between parades
during the Mardi Gras season. In addition, August Moon has been selected as one
of the best Chinese Restaurants in New Orleans by the AOL City Guide.

“Food
Friendzy” by Cathy Juarez (’10) and Molly Smith (’10)
On Thursday, November 5th,
The Word
and Reflections
staff members enjoyed lunch at local restaurant the Blue
Tomato. With a menu that could please any palette (ranging from “garbage” nachos
to Thai ribs to meatballs and spaghetti), everyone enjoyed her meal from start
to finish.
Upon arrival in our school uniforms, the waitresses warmly welcomed us
into the Cantina-style restaurant. After realizing we attended Chapelle, two of
them told us they were Chapelle alums—one from the first graduating class. The
atmosphere of the restaurant was fun, laid-back, inviting, and friendly, which
was reflected in the food.
After enjoying some delicious “garbage” nachos—warm, homemade tortilla
chips topped with melted cheese, beef, beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, and
jalapeños—everyone looked forward to her meal. The meals ordered at our table
included a hamburger with cheese fries, chicken tacos, chicken fajitas, Thai
ribs and chicken fettuccine. Junior Mallory Migliorie said, “The portions at the
Blue Tomato were enormous. I felt at home with the service, and we were
delighted to meet two alums, too!”
As if the food was not good enough, the prices were
even better. With an economy that has everyone looking for good restaurants with
even better prices, the Blue Tomato is the place to go. Senior Kelli Gatti
commented, “With such low prices for such a huge amount of food, it made my
dining experience much more enjoyable.”
The
entrees we enjoyed ranged from $5.50 to $14.50. Lauryn Gilardi, senior, said, “I
brought about half of my food home, and when I ate it later that night, it was
still sooooo good.”
So if you’re looking for a delicious meal with a great price, the Blue
Tomato is the place to go. The restaurant is located on the corner of Jefferson
Highway and Central Avenue. Join us next month as we travel to the streets of
Uptown New Orleans for another tasty restaurant review.
