Brown Foundation Awards Grant

In September, students attended the annual Service Learning Event sponsored by the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation. Service partner organizations such as Longue Vue House and Gardens, The Green Project, Ronald McDonald House, New Orleans Museum of Art, STAIR (Start the Adventure in Reading), Fast Food Farm, African American Museum, Parkway Partners, LSU Coastal Roots, Beauregard-Keyes House and others were on hand to offer activities and educational service opportunities to the students. 

Archbishop Chapelle High School was awarded a grant for four projects.  The National Honor Society conducts leadership training for middle school students.  Matthew 25 nurtures survivors of domestic abuse through Crescent House Healing and Empowerment Center.  In addition, Matthew 25 helps Kenner Head Strart pupils prepare to read.  Through the LSU Coastal Roots program, the biology students help to restore wetland habitat in Plaquemines parish.

Moderators JoAnn Johnson LeCarpentier ’72 and Joann Haydel accompanied the students to the event.
