HistoryArchbishop Chapelle High School was founded in 1962 by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The school was named after the sixth Archbishop of New Orleans, the Most Reverend Placide Louis Chapelle, and was originally staffed by the congregation of The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. Chapelle is accredited by the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Southern Association of High Schools and Colleges, and the National Catholic Educational Association. Since its establishment, Archbishop Chapelle High School has become a model of academic excellence and innovation, earning recognition as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education three times, an honor Chapelle shares with only four other high schools in the nation and one other high school in Louisiana. In addition, Chapelle was named one of the 25 Most Innovative Catholic Schools in the Country by Today’s Catholic Teacher Magazine. Today, Chapelle’s trend-setting educational program attracts students from all over the New Orleans metropolitan area, Northshore, and River Parishes, but what keeps our students here is Chapelle’s warm, welcoming atmosphere and fervent school spirit. Chapelle is more than a school; it is a family that supports and encourages its children, celebrates their success, and prepares them for the future.
